san diego, part 3.

We ate at Ruby's diner, somewhere in the city.
i liked it less than Mel's. just sayin.
but the milkshakes... aaaah!

san diego, part 2.

the look on Peter's face cracks me up every time.
We visited the us midway. Cute ship. I got ww2 postcards, had tiny panic attacks in the little rooms and tiny corridors cuz of too much titanic movie watching. I also got into an awkward but funny conversation with some retired lieutenant (?. i really have no idea) who got confused when i moved around and kept changing my seats during his tour.. he did not like that! lol. No military career for me there, and later talked about my "swedish blondeness". hahaa, but he was very nice. Another lady commented on my complexion, she could tell i wasn't american. eh. Overall it was interesting, i've never been on a war-ship before.

san diego, part 1.

I loved all the palm trees in the city everywhere. We went to so many museums my feet hurt at the end of the day. Loved the dinosaurs at the natural history museum (loved them. i escpeially enjoyed it cuz of the fact that they were found in california). Loved the weather and loved san diego!

My mom's story of her road trip to san diego in the 1970's beats mine though.. with a 50's cadillac with two older ladies wearing cat eye sunglasses driving from LA to san diego. I would have died from overexposure to awesomeness. I hope i'm just as cool when i'm at that age. I can't believe i missed california in the 70's. i've seen the pictures, it was wonderful.

san francisco, day four.

i went in to the city today and spent some time with Kajsa. we went to a diner, and then we headed to the mission, where she lives. we sat for an hour in a really nice park and had a small picnic with baked bread and olives from an organic little food store close by, eating and chatting while overlooking the skyscrapes. time ran away from us faster than we wanted and i had to catch my train back to palo alto. at the caltrain station i saw cecilia and affe who just returned visiting stina in palo alto. it's the third time we run in to each other. funny. that felt like being in little umeå too! how nice.

we think the mission is quite nice. i seriously loved that park. little tiny place in the world. wish i could have stayed longer, but a week from now, i might have more time. we're going to san diego tomorrow morning. and then driving back up to here via L.A. i'll be back online on saturday or sunday. have a nice week.

those lines look insane and can't possible be safe!!

me in a polaroid taken by kajsa.
i don't have a scanner here,
i will scan it when i get home.

oh. and i can add some more things to the american list:
  • BART subway here in san fran has carpet floors in them. WHY?!. i nearly died when i saw that.
  • don't place the parking permit in the car? why even waste money on getting one then?
  • some things are more expensive here, but a lot of things are cheaper.
  • 3 pair of converse shoes here for almost the price of a single pair in sweden (yes emily i have them for you!) i hate sweden!.

rocky horror..

At midnight, Stina and I went back from SF to Palo Alto to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show at Guild, which is an old movie theater. i've always wanted to see it in a theater.. i was superhappy. (i know there are shows in denmark, but with sweden i'm not sure). there were performances and people shouting funny things very synced through the whole film and lots of singing and dancing. it was really fun. well, for the people who know the film, there was a bunch that hadn't seen it, think they will have to see it again. if you get a chance, go see it!

san francisco, day three.

we left palo alto and went in to "the city" today where we met cecilia and affe who were visiting SF too. we ate at Mels drive in, i finally had a taste of vanilla milkshake and i loved it. we walked around market street, but there wasn't really much to see there, the stores were boring. we didn't have time to go anywhere else today. stina and i had nasty iced latte (don't try it). we finally met kajsa again and we all had dinner at a jazz restaurant which had a live jazz band playing. it was a really nice day with friends here in san francisco. tomorrow i'm going in again to hang out with Kajsa before she leaves for Boston.

palo alto, day two.

today we spent time with the families on the stanford campus. it wasn't too hot outside, i liked that. had some good jamba juice. went up in the hoover tower and got some orientation. i saw a humming bird today. adorable. i've only seen downtown palo alto, redwood city and stanford so far, it is cute. love the palm trees and the fog crawling over the mountains! frozen yoghurt seems to be the thing there. tomorrow we're meeting cecilia and kajsa in san fransisco. yesterday i was still on swedish time, but today was easier. i miss swedish food.

palo alto, day one.

writing from my sisters bed. we're watching a movie, and i should be sleeping, i am exhausted. i didnt get enough sleep the night before i left sweden, so i felt sick the whole way. i liked chicago's airport. now i'm here in palo alto.

the american list. some things, seen from a swedish perspective:

  • there are no street lights at night at this place where stina lives. scary. and what's with the U turns? everybody seems to drive big heavy dark cars that drinks gas. i've only seen ONE old volvo on the freeway lol.

  • doorhandles are funny, and i don't get the carpet floors.
  • i don't get to pack the grocery bags. why?!?! i've got arms?!
  • i don't get seat number at cinemas.
