a ski vacation in the fells. day 1/3

What is winter without a ski trip? between xmas and new years eve, i went on a ski vacation, it was a bit cold, ca -16 C. We were out the few hours the sun was up, around lunch time, it only stayed above the horizon. maybe i should have used iso 400 film, but this 200 one shows how far away the sun was. My sister, brother and i failed miserably at creating an 1980's vacation feeling, as we were dressed in black, and not a bright color in sight. We did not ski the bigger mountain, just the small one but the slopes were challenging enough for me so it was good. I found one slope that i particularly liked more than the others. and oh.. the views!
me.

um... yes please.

"Tears on Tape’ is going to be really organic, straight-in-your-face, super melancholy bulls— [Laughs]. It’s going to be something nobody’s heard before. I’m really happy about it. It sounds great. Remember the soundtrack for ‘Twin Peaks’ that Angelo Badalamenti did? It’s got that similar forlorn, melancholy quality but mixed up with Motörhead. That’s where we’re at! We’re really happy. It’s got that dreamlike quality. It’s like Roy Orbison meeting Metallica."

*the above are some doodles i did this past weekend

Nikkormat camera, part 3/3.

These three posts below are photos from a test film i used in my grandfathers SLR camera (Nikkormat FT, manufactured in Japan in the 1960's!). I had no idea what to expect, and i had to force myself to learn the mechanics of it, i think i pulled it off good, considering most of these photos look like they're supposed to..! sometimes a bit blurry, but i couldnt hold the camera still. The shutter sound is amazing. I'm quite smitten by this one. I carried this heavy and lovely camera around in october.. and here are the photos..

about film.

After walking through this djungle that is film, some films work better with certain cameras. it's the combination of film and camera that is the most important, i've discovered. kodacolor in a holga 135 works great in the winter, kodacolor in my minolta in the summer, not so much. I'm finally at the end of this try-out period, and I've found my favorite combinations. it is all so much fun. My favorite films, so far, are portra 160NC and ektar, both by kodak.
